Instructions:
In this task, we were instructed to research films, advertisements, music videos or TV Shows from 2019 onwards and note down how they used visual effects (VFX).
Then, in three paragraphs review your learning and discuss with partner what impact you think visual effects have on a media text.
My Response:

Music Video: Bad Guy-Billie Elish
Disney Live Action Remake: Lilo and Stitch
Superhero Film: Spider-Man: Homecoming
To start, the Coca-Cola ad used visual effects to echo the style and message of each painting. Creating an engaging and satisfying experience for the audience is a widely used creative style of marketing nowadays. Although AI can be seen as a negative and useless device, this ad actively demonstrates how sophisticated and innovative this tool can make pieces. Overall, Coca-Cola uses special effects/AI to embrace the beauty of such artwork and the newly designed power of technology.
Moving on, Billie Elish's music video stands out with its artistic visuals and powerful performance. Throughout the video, Billie uses visual elements such as props, color, and gestures to convey meaning and emotion. Effects like the two heads in a water-filled bag allow the audience to engage in a way never seen before. To add, her use of a green screen enables Billie to appear and show personality in multiple locations. In summary, at the time of production this style of art was not commonly used and allowed Billie to accurately convey her persona as an upcoming artist.
Next, the live action of Lilo and Stitch's most notable use of visual effects is producers' use of CGI. The movie's mix of humans and several alien characters enable a much deeper and tangible storyline. When viewers see the interaction and relationship between Lilo and Stitch in particular, a lot more emotion is able to be felt and maintained while watching. Unlike the 2002 version, where everyone is a cartoon, a clear difference in character arcs cannot be grasped as much as the newer film where there is a practical reality to ground the story. With the use of visual effects, the film is able to convey a fresher and more enhanced perspective while still keeping the originals charm and Disney magic.
Lastly, in Spider-Man: Homecoming a fully CG-animated spiderman is used for dangerous
stunts and or/ nontangible locations. For example, when spiderman is seen climbing on a tall monument, an animated figure is used, for most obvious reasons. Character animation is also used in multiple battle scenes, which were funded by numerous VFX companies, to allow his character to perform complex moves and stunts seamlessly. To add, multiple times throughout the film, room scanning was also used to create realistic backgrounds and make characters appear in computer-generated environments. In conclusion, over 300 visual effect shots were used to contribute to the film's immersive and dynamic visual experience.
