   Activity 3.12
January 23, 2026

Instructions:

Selected a TV Drama and answer the following questions:

-What binary oppositions can you identify in Episode 1 of your chosen series?
-Are any of the binary oppositions synonymous with the genre?
-Does one half of the pair(s) seem more powerful than the other?
-Is the audience encouraged to identify with one particular side of the opposition?

My Response: Series being Gilmore Girls

In episode 1, the binary oppositions are Humor vs. Seriousness and Romantic vs.
Academic Aspirations. This heavily aligns with what a comedy-drama series
usually consists of. Both oppositions are consistent, and no one is more powerful
or seen than the other. Although it is not explicitly stated, the audience who would
usually be watching this kind of series, young teen girls, would lean more on and
continue watching because of the characters' love interests while trying to upkeep
her school expectations. But those of different age groups may keep watching for
numerous varied reasons.
