Critical Creative Reflection

  • This page presents my reflection progress after developing my final magazine project. Here, I explain my ability to analyze and build upon my skills throughout the class and how I feel such skills will help me later.

  • Below are the questions I have answered.

1. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?

- My product uses conventions like taglines and elaborate layouts to represent the vibrant energy of New York City.In other words, constantly describing NYC as a positive lively environment, I am bringing an emotional appeal to my audience and a accurate view of society there. To add, my cover image being a very touristy place draws in an audience interested and wanting to see more.

2.How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

- Becoming intention and targeted when presenting information on each page was very important for me when developing my project. Using bright and intriguing images brings in those who are entertained by walking around and simply enjoying views. While my food page was targeted for the foodies and their preferences. Overall, just looking at the images and reading the coverlines, my audience was able to thoroughly engage. As a real media text, my magazine would most likely be distributed online to remain accessible content anyone where can read/view.

3.How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

My production skills have developed quite a lot throughout the project. As far as pre-production I now understand the value in thoroughly pre-planning before jumping straight into such a big project. Since I used Canva, I was able to become very familiar with the system and learn tools on there that helped me significantly. When taking pictures, I learned the importance of composition and effective lighting. Additionally, this blog is one of the biggest contributors to my projects success. This site has helped me pace myself and go through each process seamlessly.

4.How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

As I developed my entire project on my computer, technology became crucial to my developing process. Before I even began researching, I used online platforms like Pinterest and Safari to find other magazines and find ideas I might want to build off of. I used Microsoft Word to take notes of my research and components I felt I should probably include. I used Canva to make my Gantt chart and track my timing/pace. I also used Canva to design each page in my magazine.
